Soil Mechanics and Foundation Engineering

Geotechnics consists of the theoretical and practical implementations of soil and rock mechanics as well as foundation engineering and environmental engineering.

There is researching and teaching about geotechnical research, design and construction in the Soil Mechanics and Foundation Engineering research group.

Foundation engineering and geotechnical design consists of a geotechnical design, type of foundation, foundation damages, foundation strengthening, observation and soil hardening. Soil mechanics includes the mechanical behaviour of soil and material used in foundations, theory of elasticity, theory of plasticity, rheology and seepage flow.

The main research and teaching subjects in Soil Mechanics and Foundation research group are mechanical properties of soil, road geotechnics, foundations, numerical modelling, FEM, geotechnical software engineering, frost, geo textiles, deep and mass stabilization and enviromental geotechnics.

A good foundation is the basis of all building. A good knowledge in geotechnics gives the engineer a solid foundation for all civil engineering challenges.
